This column was not well researched 0n the protocol for replacing a delegate nor was it accurate in what really occurs in submitting the names to the governor. The WV Code and the WVGOP Bylaws state rather rigid, although open for interpretation in more than one way, rules for the process. The delegate District executive, or “vacancy” , committee had only two of the four members elected as nobody in Pocahontas ran for the positions.many such positions have been vacant since the 2022 election. The usual practice has been to ignore the vacancies until a need occurs. Then the chair of the county executive committee appoints his county’s members as was done in the original appointment of delegate Honaker when both Monroe and Summers counyies had to appoint members. Why Chairwoman McArdle chose to exercise her right to appoint members in this instance is a mystery when the Pocahontas chair had already chosen members but was overruled onthem. Why ? Who knows although there are theories about it.
The district committee did not meet as there were only three valid applications.
