CHARLESTON, WVa – The Kanawha County Federation of Republican Women met today and their last order of business was a motion from the floor to remove Doug Skaff as an associate member of the group and return a donation he had recently made. Skaff, who recently left his position as the Democrat House Minority leader is now a Republican candidate for West Virginia Secretary of State. The motion offered by Brenda Arthur received a second and unnecessary but notable third, fourth, fifth and sixth before going to a vote which widely passed.
The group cited Skaff’s previous voting record and stance contradicting basic Republican platform issues, as well as the WVGOP’s recent action and former Chairwoman Elgine McArdle’s call to action for each local county to take up a vote to condemn Skaff’s candidacy and inform voters of bona fide Republican, conservative candidates in the upcoming primary. The only point of debate during the discussion was the format in which to act because this was atypical for the group.
Skaff’s candidacy continues to be a controversial issue for Republicans who feel his recent stance on issues surrounding election integrity, men playing girl’s sports, abortion, and business are not consistent with Republican beliefs.
