Poll Shows Some WV Republican Federal Races Tightening While Trump’s Numbers Grow.

The WV Statewide News Republican Primary 4th Quarter Poll for Oct 2023 shows the federal races are tightening.  The entire poll results will be released Monday, October 16th.

The live phone poll surveyed 710 of the most likely Republican primary voters, asking them:

“If the primary election were held today which of these candidates would you choose”.

The poll has a 95% confidence level and responses were sought based on the size and average turnout on a per-county basis.

Options were randomized and no option for undecided was offered.  Candidates were identified by name and residence location. The purpose of this poll was to establish a snapshot of the mindset of most likely republican voters today.

In the presidential race, Donald Trump’s numbers soared to 87% (up from 78% in Q3) while Ron Desantis shrank from 18.73% in Q3 to 5% in Q4.

The U.S. Senate Race changed slightly showing Jim Justice – 55% and Alex Mooney – 45%.  This is only a slight change from the Q3 results (Justice – 56.36% and Mooney – 41.46%.)  Chris Rose had 2.18% in the Q3 poll but has moved to a state senate race.

In the Congressional District 1 race, incumbent Carol Miller fell from Q3 – 61.96% to Q4 – 56% while Derrick Evans rose from Q3 – 38.04% to Q4 – 44%.

The District 2 Congressional race shows Riley Moore with a commanding 85% lead over Nate Cain and Alex Gaaserud who both posted 6% in Q4.  Candidates Earley and Turley showed less than 2%.  This change shows Gaaserud even from Q3 with Cain’s numbers trending lower.

Poll Results for West Virginia Governor, Attorney General, Secretary of State, and Auditor will be released on October 16th along with greater poll detail.
