“Every eligible candidate, including Donald Trump, has the constitutional right to have their name on West Virginia’s Primary Election ballot unless legally disqualified,” Warner said. “Seeking to remove voters’ opportunity to nominate a candidate to be the next President of the United States is not to be taken lightly. As West Virginia’s chief election official, every eligible candidate and registered voter can trust that I will follow and enforce the Constitution,” Warner continued.

John Castro (TX)

John Anthony Castro is a Texas Republican candidate for President.  He has filed suits in Florida, Wyoming, Utah, Oklahoma, North Carolina, Montana, Idaho and West Virginia to keep former President Donald Trump off tho ballot.  His claim uses Section 3 of the 14th Amendment of the Constitution which states anyone who has “engaged in insurrection or rebellion against” can not run for office.

Several other candidates quickly responded including two of the candidates for Attorney General.

Senator Ryan Weld attacked Castro’s reputation noting he was caught lying about being a West Point graduate and labeled the action “just another political stunt by opponents of the former president.”

Senator Mike Stuart also condemned the effort to steal the 2024 election as “Anti-American” and “Anti-Democratic”.  Stuart served as West Virginia Co-Chair to President’s Trump campaign.
