Charleston Police Chief To Resign

Published

on

According to sources within the police department, Charleston Police Chief James “Tyke” Hunt is resigning from his position. The reasons cited relate to health issues and upcoming surgery, despite previous and ongoing claims made against the chief.

The resignation of Hunt has been demanded by some citizens and council members who found controversial allegations made last year first by Jenny Harless. Those allegations exposed on the podcast “Scoop Squad / Truth Squad” detailed sexual advances and inappropriate photos sent by Chief Hunt to Harless.

These allegations resulted in a city council discussion regarding how the personnel matter was handled internally. Some council members called for an independent investigation of Hunt. Despite the majority of the council’s refusal to start an independent investigation, “Scoop Squad / Truth Squad” had promised a new segment detailing more allegations against Hunt.

Hunt was appointed to the chief’s position in February 2020. Previous coverage of Chief Hunt and the allegations can be found here.
