Kris Raynes Named Putnam Prosecutor, First Female To Hold Position

WINFIELD, WV – Kristina “Kris” Raynes was appointed today by the Putnam County Commission to serve out the term of Mark Sorsaia. Raynes is a Putnam County native having graduated from Buffalo-Putnam High School in 1992. She earned her undergraduate degree from Marshall University and her Juris Doctorate from the University of Akron School of Law in 2000.

She has extensive experience working in the Putnam County Prosector’s office and as the Municipal Prosecutor for Nitro and Winfield. Raynes also was a Special Assistant United States Attorney for the US Attorneys Office for the Southern District of West Virginia where she handled high-intensity drug trafficking and weapons cases.

This appointment makes the first appointment of a female prosecutor in Putnam.
