Republican Chris Rose has been in the race for United States Senate but announced today he will be facing Senator Mike Maroney in the West Virginia Senate 2 District this primary election.
Maroney, a radiologist from Glen Dale, WV assumed office in 2017. He chairs the Senate Health & Human Resources Committee. Maroney’s tenure has come with controversy as he was charged in 2019 with solicitation of a prostitute, then charged criminally for campaign sign law violations. Those charges were all ultimately dropped.
Rose is a self-described MAGA Conservative Republican. During his campaign announcement on the Tom Roten Morning Show Monday he drew several distinct differences between himself and Maroney. Rose is a proponent of healthcare freedom, issues that have gained no traction in Maroney’s committee. He also noted that Maroney had voted to allow boys to play girls’ sports in regard to transgender rights and that Maroney supported other gender confirmation treatments for children.
