The Putnam County Courthouse looks better these days thanks to the efforts of the Putnam County Republican Women. The group planted flowers and improved the landscaping at the courthouse recently. This is just one of several community service projects the group has completed.
Earlier in the year the Putnam County Republican Women held their annual “Back the Blue” event at the Winfield Community Center. Participating at the event local police departments from Nitro, Eleanor, Buffalo, Hurricane, and Poca as well as the Sheriff’s Department, DNR, and State Police. Individual officers were recognized for their length of service and new officers were welcomed to the community.
The group also recently collected items for the Putnam location of the Branches Domestic Violence Center. One member said prior to the event she was not even aware that Putnam County had such a service. Branches reported the group’s efforts resulted in the largest donation in the history of the Putnam location.
Many community organizations have benefited from the efforts of the Putnam County Republican Women. Their website details a list of the groups that range from local food banks to the Girl Scouts. The group, while clearly focused on increasing the number of women in political office and promoting Republican principles, is also making an impact with their hard work in the community.
The Putnam County Republican Women along with other Putnam Republican groups is hosting a Unity Picnic on July 9th, 5-7:30 PM at the FMC Sportsman Club. The featured speaker at the event is candidate for Governor Chris Miller. More information about the picnic and the group can be found on their website at pcrwomen.org.
