Patrick Morrisey’s wife, Denise Henry Morrisey, is a founding partner of the Washington lobbying firm Capitol Counsel. Reports and detailed information have highlighted the firm’s connection and Mrs. Morrisey’s direct involvement with pharmaceutical companies, which later became targets of opioid investigations, over the course of several years.
Now, as Attorney General Patrick Morrisey runs for governor, another association with controversial organizations has come to light. According to OpenSecrets.org, the anti-gun group Giffords Law Center has paid $1 million dollars to Morrisey’s firm since 2017. In 2018, the Giffords Law Center filed a lawsuit against the NRA, citing their support of President Trump’s campaign and other Republican campaigns.
Furthermore, OpenSecrets.org reveals that Morrisey’s firm, Capitol Counsel, has received over $2 million dollars from the pro-abortion organization Planned Parenthood. Prior to the overturning of Roe v. Wade, Planned Parenthood was responsible for approximately 41% of the abortions performed in the United States.
While serving as Attorney General, Patrick Morrisey has been involved in litigation defending a state law that restricts abortion and challenging gun laws. It is worth noting that the firm founded by his wife, in which she still holds a partnership, has continued to generate millions of dollars in revenue from organizations that oppose the very efforts he is representing.
Patrick Morrisey entered the race for West Virginia Governor in April.
