Mike Stuart Formally Announces for AG

Senator Mike Stuart, who is also a former state GOP chair and U.S. Attorney, has declared his candidacy for the position of state Attorney General in West Virginia. Speaking before his supporters at the Kanawha County Voter’s Registration Office on Tuesday, Stuart expressed his deep sense of obligation and purpose and announced his decision to run for the position with a great deal of humility.

Stuart was elected to the Senate in 2022 and will be competing with at least one other Republican, Senator Ryan Weld, for the nomination. The Attorney General’s position has become available due to Patrick Morrisey, who has held the position for three terms, announcing his intention to run for governor in 2024. Stuart acknowledged Morrisey’s success in winning several significant cases over the past decade.
