The deputy behind the wheel of a tragic vehicle vs pedestrian incident that claimed the life of a 13-year-old Huntington girl has now resigned.

The off-duty Cabell County deputy struck and killed Jacquiline “Laney” Hudson with his cruiser on December 30, 2022. An investigation was conducted by the West Virginia State Police. The specially appointed Putnam County Prosecutor announced on March 1st that black box data from the cruiser was “inconclusive”. The WVSP reconstruction team determined that Racer was not intoxicated and had a green light at the time of the crash.

Protests and rallies from the victim’s family, friends, and fellow community members have taken place at both the Cabell County Courthouse and the state capitol as they work to raise awareness and seek answers.
