It probably is no coincidence that on the day President Trump was arraigned in a New York City courtroom Mike Stuart announced his run for West Virginia Attorney General.
Senator Mike Stuart (R-Kanawha) is the former WVGOP Chairman and served as Co-Chair of Donald Trump’s West Virginia campaign and was personally picked by President Trump to serve as U.S. Attorney for West Virginia’s Southern District.
Stuart grew up in a coal mining family in Barbour County, graduated from WVU and later Boston University School of Law. Since law school, he has resided in Kanawha County with his wife Katrina and their two college-age daughters.
As US Attorney Stuart was a clear leader in the fight against opioids and illegal drugs that have plagued West Virginia’s families. As a first-term Senator, he has several pieces of successful legislation that carried on that fight.
Stuart easily won his Senate race against 16-year incumbent Ron Stollings in counties that still have a Democrat majority. Current AG Morrisey announced his run for Governor yesterday. At this time no other candidates have announced a run for Attorney General. It will be difficult and near impossible for another Republican to outmaneuver a former state party chair, Trump campaign chair, and successful grassroots campaigner like Stuart.
