WV Supreme Court Rules Hope Scholarship Constitutional

The WV Supreme Court has overturned Kanawha Circuit Judge Joanna Tabit’s previous ruling concerning the Hope Scholarship.

On Thursday, October 27th the West Virginia Supreme Court reversed a decision by the Kanawha County Circuit court ruling the Hope Scholarship proram constitutional.

WV Attorney General Patrick Morrisey tweeted this message Thursday night:

“By the way, the WV Attorney General’s Office prevailed against the far-left, which tried to wipe out the Hope Scholarship, a program designed to expand education freedom in WV.”

Kanawha Circuit Judge Joanna Tabit ruled the state’s Hope Scholarship unconstitutional in July leaving many students in limbo and their parents struggling to determine how to pay for educational choices that were made based upon the Hope Scholarship program.

Riley Moore, WV State Treasurer announced in May more than 3,000 students had been approved for the program. The scholarship was to have provided nearly $4,300 for 2022-2023 school year.
